Co-creating with the Moon
April 20, 2023, brings us an intense solar eclipse in Aries, marking a second chance at a fresh start. Aries is a fiery, impulsive, and aggressive sign, that loves to rush into action, without considering the consequences. This eclipse in Aries signifies an opportunity for us to embrace this aggressive energy and use it to drive our impetuous actions towards positive transformation.
It has been quite an Aries season being capped off by a second new moon showing its form through a hybrid solar eclipse – meaning we see total and penumbral views of this eclipse. We are walking between two worlds being put into a position to leave what no longer serves us behind and stepping into conscious leadership. Pluto furthers this notion as it interacts with the nodes, highlighting where we have to release control and embrace something completely new (though unknown), but with the possibility of being extremely equalizing and visionary – a very ambitious contest.
Our first new moon in Aries greeted us with a strong push for transformation to ourselves and our aspirations, which kindly tuned us into our real wishes and offered motivation the past month. Now the same energy confronts the eclipse, intensifying the emotions around our desires to an extreme and causing difficulties in our closest partnerships.
As we went through an intense Full Moon in Libra that had us doubling down on commitment or releasing a toxic connection, this second Aries new moon has heightened meaning and impetus for us to take the actions needed if we hesitated, particularly in partnerships. After the new moon in harmonious aspect with Pluto excited us to start a new life, we have been tussling back and forth with the implications all month, coming to head with this Solar Eclipse. For some the fire of Aries will give them strength, passion, and courage to stand up for themselves and imbue them with a new confidence for a new way of being. For others, a need to tame their egos and take responsibility for the destruction they may have caused will hold more importance.

We are embracing our value in just being ourselves and being authentic. With all this Aries energy and our mind and desires having no boundaries, there is a substantial risk of going over the top to express ourselves. Communication is vital, especially in matters of the heart – whether in relationships or business. We want to be practical, take time processing new things coming in and embrace this alignment of our feelings and thoughts. We want to see our values play out in the material world which can become impossible if we are not precise and clear.
We are, however, already in the shadow of Mercury retrograde, which begins a day later. This means we are all on a journey of making a decision that will need to be reviewed for the next few weeks, that will need to be revised from our April choice once Mercury goes direct mid-May. Contracts, collaborations, and new business may come up, but take some time to review and do not sign on any dotted lines, holding off until June if possible.
Let us also remember Pluto has just moved into Aquarius, enacting a collective shift in the world. We have seen a tightening down of the old regimes to try to maintain control and a rise in protest as Pluto shifts in the sign “for the people”. We are in the beginning stages of this expression and the sky is emboldening us to be the Fool and take giant steps towards a new way of life, but we are also missing pieces of how exactly to bring it into the material world with longevity and the full consequences of our actions.
This is all by design. Right now is not about doing something new perfectly. It is merely the act of doing something that will help transform our own perspective on what is and is not doable. How to disrupt what is not working and try something new. It requires a Fool’s perspective to move beyond the status quo to reach our hopes and conquer the fear that has kept us comfortable.
Aries’ eclipse emotional nature contrasts with Pluto’s Aquarius desire to remain detached, analytical, and objective–though both embrace a rebellious spirit. However, there is a lot of resentment, crisis, hurt, and emotional turmoil brewing in the background.
Aquarius may get jazzed up by the action, but Aries can easily get carried away, and this could lead to a lack of consideration for consequences. It is important to remember that we need to be seen to act in the world and have an impact.
The eclipse offers us an opportunity to transform our political systems, interactions, and relationships, leading to the rebirth of hopes and dreams and the emergence of new ideologies. We will also realize the natural boundaries and limitations (with Saturn in Pisces sextile to this eclipse) and how far we can go. But we will not see those limitations if we do not act. The eclipse may start an initial burst of reaction from the people, but Pluto will begin its 6-month retrograde motion at the end of the month, retracting this transformative energy as we pull back to integrate the lessons of our first attempts and rethink how we might be better agents of change.
The emergence of the realization that we must do it ourselves is coming, which can only come on the back of a massive disappointment, as governments or authority figures have failed us. It is time to accept that we all hold part of the problem and the solution, and that we might have no other way but to step up and participate. We all hold a very strong power that we must embrace to make positive change.
The themes of survival and justice will be at stake during this time, as we engage in a power struggle for liberty. While this eclipse may seem impressive at first, it is important to remember that it can easily turn into a mess, if we ignore crucial details, become too naïve or too aggressive. We must strike a balance between having enthusiasm in making our response to inequities tangible in the world and not just agitating authorities who may be losing patience.
Those of you in leadership positions have an opportunity to veer into new, expansive influencing styles, creating more authentic ways of inspiring your group. It is time to be experimental, or at least start having conversations about ways you can lead that offer transparency, genuineness and an equitable structure with your followers, groups, and clientele.
If you have been actively working on creating a more conscious business, innovative ideas will be grounded and have some longevity, particularly if you focus on one main idea to get off the ground. Topics like equitable pay, transparency, and a delegation of power throughout the structure of the business should be reviewed and planned. This eclipse offers us an opportunity to make that pivot easily and rewards thinking way outside the box.
After all these massive shifts over the past month, the entry into Taurus season gives us time to digest the impact of this solar eclipse, giving us a week free of major transits. We have time to navigate and let this settle before Pluto stations retrograde on May 1, giving us some retrospective on our true intentions and our connections with others.
